Updated August 2026Segway Ninebot MAX G3: Specifications and Independent Measurements
The short answer
Segway headlines the MAX G3 at 50 miles. Further down the same spec page, Segway also publishes 25 miles for Sport+ riding. ERideHero rode one and measured 24.9 miles at 28 mph. Segway's own at-speed figure was accurate to within 0.1 of a mile; the headline was out by half. Plan for about 25 miles, and buy it for the suspension, brakes and 28 mph.
Evidence and availability
This record was rebuilt on 25 August 2026 against Segway's published specification table, which confirmed every figure below. Electric Scooter Guides has not ridden this scooter; the performance figures are either manufacturer claims or another publication's measurements, and each is labelled as such.
Catalog status: Available.
Published specifications
Segway lists a maximum range of 50 miles at 10 mph, a maximum speed of 28 mph, an 850W rated / 2,000W peak motor, a 597Wh battery, front and rear adjustable hydraulic suspension, 11-inch self-sealing tubeless tyres, front and rear disc brakes, a colour TFT display, turn signals, cruise control, Apple Find My tracking and an IPX6 water-resistance listing. Net weight is approximately 54.2 lb and maximum payload 286 lb.
Segway also publishes a second range figure on the same table: approximately 25 miles at maximum speed in Sport+, and 34 miles in Sport. That is the number to plan around.
Independent measurements
ERideHero measured 24.9 miles of range and a 28 mph top speed, GPS-logged with a 175 lb rider. The speed claim held exactly. The range came in at 50% of the headline figure and within 0.1 of a mile of Segway's own Sport+ figure.
That pattern — an accurate at-speed figure buried under an inflated headline — repeats across the category and is documented in claimed versus measured range and why range claims are wrong.
How it compares
The older MAX G2 was measured at 29.8 and 26.6 miles by two outlets — further than the G3, at 22 mph. The newer MAX G3 Plus adds a 717Wh battery and much better brakes and was measured at 21.2 miles on a harder run. The whole range is ranked on measured figures in the Segway Ninebot lineup compared.
What to verify before buying
Confirm the current price directly: Segway's own store has listed this scooter at $1,499.99 while retail partners have listed it near $999. Check the replacement-battery path and cost, wear-part availability, charger certification and the local speed limit — 28 mph is above the 20 mph line several US states draw, and Segway restricts shipping to New York State for scooters over 20 mph. An IPX6 listing is a water-resistance rating, not permission to ride through standing water.
Frequently asked questions
What is the real range of the Segway MAX G3?
About 25 miles. ERideHero measured 24.9 miles, and Segway's own Sport+ figure on the same spec page says 25. The 50-mile headline is quoted at 10 mph, which is roughly a third of the scooter's top speed.
How fast is the Segway MAX G3?
28 mph claimed and 28 mph measured by ERideHero. Segway's speed claim is exact, which is typical: speed claims across this category are broadly honest while range claims are not.
Is the Segway MAX G3 street legal?
It depends on the state. 28 mph is above the 20 mph cap several US states apply to street-legal electric scooters, and Segway applies a shipping restriction in New York State for that reason. Verify the local rule before buying.
Should I buy the MAX G3 or the MAX G2?
The G3 for 28 mph, rear suspension, disc brakes and IPX6 sealing. The G2 for measured range and price: it returned 29.8 and 26.6 miles across two outlets against the G3's 24.9, because it is a slower scooter and spends less energy on speed.
