ANYHILL UM-2 Electric Scooter Review

As I approached the ANYHILL UM-2 electric scooter, its robust and sleek design immediately caught my eye. The scooter, which is crafted with urban commuting in mind, promised a blend of performance and portability that I was eager to put to the test.

First Impressions

Unboxing the UM-2 was straightforward. The scooter came nearly fully assembled, requiring only the handlebars to be fixed into place. Once assembled, the sturdy aluminum frame and the matte black finish conveyed a sense of quality and durability.

Performance and Handling

Turning on the UM-2, I was greeted by an intuitive LCD display that clearly showed battery life, speed, and riding mode. The scooter features a 350W brushless motor which peaks at 500W, and I could feel that power when I rode. Acceleration was smooth, thanks to the twist-grip throttle, and getting up to the maximum speed of 19mph felt both exhilarating and secure.

The UM-2 confidently tackled inclines that would challenge inferior scooters, living up to its claim of handling hills with a 15% grade without a noticeable decrease in speed or performance.

Handling the scooter felt intuitive, with responsive steering and a grippy foot deck that kept me firmly planted even when making sharp turns. The 10-inch pneumatic tires provided a comfortable ride, absorbing shocks from uneven terrain and ensuring stability.

Range and Battery Life

ANYHILL claims a 25-mile range for the UM-2 on a single charge, and in my experience, this held true under normal riding conditions. The 36V 10.4Ah battery is built into the deck, which contributes to the scooter's streamlined design while also protecting the battery from external elements. Recharging took about 6 hours from a completely drained battery to full, which is reasonable for the range provided.

Safety Features

The UM-2's safety features are commendable. It comes equipped with a dual-braking system—a front electronic anti-lock brake and a rear disk brake—providing ample stopping power that gave me confidence in emergency situations.

The bright LED headlight and taillight are a much-appreciated addition for nighttime visibility. There's also an integrated bell on the handlebar, handy for alerting pedestrians on shared paths.

Portability and Storage

Weighing in at approximately 33 pounds, the UM-2 isn't the lightest scooter on the market, but it strikes a good balance between sturdiness and portability. The one-step folding mechanism made it relatively easy to collapse and carry when I needed to navigate stairs or enter buildings. Once folded, the compact size facilitated easy storage at home or underneath a desk at work.

Comfort

Riding comfort on the UM-2 was above average for scooters in its class. The ample deck space allowed for a relaxed stance, which was a relief on longer commutes. The previously mentioned pneumatic tires combined with the rear shock absorber ensured that I didn't feel every bump and jolt from the road.

Additional Features

ANYHILL included some thoughtful touches on the UM-2, such as the waterproof design that gives peace of mind during unexpected showers. However, I would advise against riding in heavy rain or through deep puddles for safety.

The scooter also features cruise control, a function that allows for a more relaxed ride during prolonged use, although personally, I preferred maintaining direct control at all times.

Conclusion

In summary, the ANYHILL UM-2 electric scooter provides an impressive package for urban commuters. It balances power, range, and comfort with a design that's both durable and portable. The safety features and riding experience instill confidence, and the price point makes it accessible to a larger audience.

Whether it's navigating city streets, heading to work, or just enjoying a weekend ride, the UM-2 is a compelling choice that won't disappoint.

Update After 6+ Months of Ownership

Having owned the ANYHILL UM-2 for over six months now, I've had ample time to truly evaluate its long-term performance and durability. Here are additional insights based on extended use:

Longevity and Maintenance:

  • The UM-2 has proven to be remarkably durable. Despite regular use, it has shown minimal wear and tear, largely thanks to its robust frame and quality construction.

  • Minor maintenance was required; tightening some screws and adjusting brakes were straightforward.

Battery Performance:

  • Battery life remains consistent with the initial claims, although like all lithium-ion batteries, there is a slight decrease in maximum range as the months roll on.

  • It still manages a very respectable distance on a full charge, making it reliable for daily commutes.

Rider Experience Over Time:

  • The comfort and smooth ride quality have continued to impress. The shock absorption and pneumatic tires make even longer rides pleasant.

  • The control and balance are commendable, with the scooter maintaining a great sense of stability, which is a significant plus for safety.

Challenges and Issues:

  • I've noticed the folding mechanism has become slightly stiffer over time. Regular lubrication helps, but this could be an area for future improvement by ANYHILL.

  • On very few occasions, the LCD display flickered, although this was quickly resolved by restarting the scooter.

Overall:
The ANYHILL UM-2 electric scooter continues to be a top performer and a critical part of my daily routine. It has lived up to most of its promises and exceeded expectations in durability and rider experience. For anyone considering a robust, reliable, and enjoyable electric scooter for urban commuting, the UM-2 remains a highly recommended choice.

Riders looking for a dependable mode of urban transportation should consider the ANYHILL UM-2 electric scooter a serious contender. It's a robust scooter that offers great value for its price, and it has become a worthy companion on my daily commutes.
